In late November, Denmark and Poland’s gas network operators - Energinet and Gaz-System - took final investment decision on the 10-bcma Baltic Pipe. The new pipe will tie-in to Europipe II and connect supply from Norway’s Continental Shelf directly to Denmark and Poland. First gas is expected in October 2022. The Baltic Pipe FID announcement comes at a key point in the evolution of the European gas market. So what impact will Baltic Pipe have? Will it unlock additional Norwegian pipe gas exports? How far can Poland diversify from Russia and how will Gazprom respond?
