European gas markets and legacy suppliers are bracing themselves for a wave of LNG. Coal-to-gas switching levels will become critical in balancing the market in the short-term but policy and gas advocacy efforts will define the long-term potential for gas in Europe. On the face of it, Russia is well positioned to profit but a number of obstacles will materialise - including a second wave of LNG in the mid-2020s.
