The Hazira regas terminal is the first privately owned LNG terminal in India. Shell was the initial promoter of the terminal and started the construction in August 2001. In March 2004, Total acquired a 26% stake in the project, and subsequently formed a joint venture Hazira LNG (HLPL) with Shell.
