Aitik copper mine

Report summary

Aitik is a low grade, high tonnage copper, gold and silver deposit hosted within a supracrustal metamorphosed shear zone of Precambrian origin. In October 2014, the Land and Environment Court granted Boliden permission to ramp up production to 45mtpa and to implement the required dam elevations to enable continued tailings deposition. Expansion work towards continued in 2015 although disruptions at the in-pit crusher resulted in ore milled falling from 39Mt in 2014 to 36Mt. In 2016 ore grades continued to be slightly below reserve grades and production continued to be impacted by low reliability at the crusher.
