The 118 deposit is located in the south of the Carajás copper region approximately 60 km south of Carajás and 10 km west of the Sossego deposit. An oxide reserve outcrops at surface which has the potential to feed a 6 Mt/a leach operation for ten years to produce 36 kt/a SxEw copper at a recovery of 70%.
The 118 deposit is located in the south of the Carajás copper region approximately 60 km south of Carajás and 10 km west of the Sossego deposit. In 2010 Vale reported that 118 was a copper growth option project for the future. Having previously been regarded as a stand-alone project for possible production in the mid-2020s, Wood Mackenzie now considers 118 as part of the Sossego resource.
It is possible that an oxide resource of 20Mt of 1.0% Cu at Sossego could could offer synergies with 118 oxide mineralisation. Additionally, 40Mt tonnes of 1.45-1.46% Cu and 0.3-0.4 g/t Au sulphide ore from 118 may be processed at the Sossego mill.
