Asset Report
Caofeidian steel plant
Report summary
Caofeidian is one of the most modern steel plants within China and commenced in 2009. Despite this, Caofeidian had many issues during its ramp-up and has struggled to operate profitably. This has partly been due to the owner's lack of experience in operating large 5,500 cubic metre blast furnaces. The plant is also highly dependent on the seaborne supply of raw materials. However, the plant's operating costs are improving and we expect them to fall further over time as efficiency improves and raw material prices decline.
