Asset Report
Damang (Abosso) gold mine
Report summary
The Damang mine is one of two Goldfields assets in Ghana (the other being Tarkwa). Mining is carried out by contractors at two open-pits using conventional drill-blast-load-haul methods. Ore is processed in a 4.3Mt/a carbon-in-leach (CIL) plant. In October 2016, the board of Gold Fields approved the "Damang Reinvestment Project". The project is due to be completed in 2020 and will entail the opening up of the Damang ore body to access higher grade ore through an intensive waste stripping programme. The capital requirement for the project was estimated at US$341 million. In 2020, the mine produced 223koz of gold.
