Report summary
Mining commenced in 1953 in the north-east of the claim area adjacent to Blyvooruitzicht. During its early years Doornfontein exploited relatively high grade ore. However a series of 2-3,000ft downthrow faults to the west broke up the ground, and gold distribution was more erratic. An erosion channel eliminated the Carbon Leader in the west much sooner than expected.
