Houndé is a conventional open pit mine, located 250km south-west of Burkina Faso's capital Ouagadougou in West Africa. Ore treated in a 3Mt/a carbon in leach (CIL) plant with an SABC milling circuit. The process involves crushing, grinding, agitated vat leaching followed by carbon-in-leach. Commercial production was declared in Q4 2017. In 2018, the mine produced 277koz of gold in its first full year of production (exceeding guidance of 250-260koz). Hounde is expected to produce 230-250koz of gold in 2019.
