Report summary

Koira is an open pit mine with an annual production capacity of 4 million tonnes. It is located 461 kilometres north-west of Paradip port, in the Sundergarh district of Odisha. Koira is wholly owned by Essel Mining, a subsidiary of the Aditya Birla Group. First commenced production in 1971 and the mine is expected to operate through to 2040. Koira's production is limited to 4 Mtpa by its environmental permits despite the fact that it has a higher production quota from the state of Odisha.
