Asset Report
Lake Johnston nickel project
Report summary
Operations were suspended at Lake Johnson in early 2009 in the wake of the GFC and plummeting nickel prices. Norilsk was successful in restarting operations in H2 2011, but was forced to close the operation in April 2013 citing low nickel prices and dwindling reserves. Poseidon is focussed on localised exploration in order to support a restart at Lake Johnston, which would ultimately involve processing the remaining 3.5 Mt of Maggie Hays ore which is estimated to contain 52 kt Ni at a grade of 1.5%.
