The lithium ion (Li-ion) battery is undoubtedly a keystone technology for the energy transition transition in the first half of this century. Though new battery products and updates to EV models continue to push their technologies’ performance limits, challenges in battery supply remain prominent. Yet, more aggressive global warming targets will inflate supply challenges further. Using Wood Mackenzie’s Energy Transition Outlook (ETO), this Insight analyses the impact on the Li-ion battery market under an Accelerated Energy Transition 1.5˚C Scenario (AET-1.5).
