Marampa iron ore mine
Report summary
Marampa is a surface mine in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone. Operations were suspended in 2019 after the Government of Sierra Leone withdrew the Marampa mining licence from Gerald Group, and the dispute between the parties escalated. It was resolved in 2021 with agreement to form Marampa Mines Limited, with the GoSL taking a 10% stake, and for GoSL to receive a US$20m payment from Marampa Mines by December 2021. Shipments of stockpiled Marampa Blue product have started and operations recommenced late 2021. Production expected to ramp to 5Mtpa, with Marampa Mines considering further expansion to 7Mtpa.
