Mengyaa zinc mine
Report summary
Extraction of open pit ore from the deposit commenced in November 2006, with the ore sold to small local mills, pending commissioning of the new Mengyaa Mill. This ore, mined prior to 2012, is not included in the accompanying profile. Construction of the mill was completed in 2010, but was not commissioned until June 2012 due to technical problems. Capacity was 440kt/a. An expansion to 880kt/a capacity was planned, but the mine and mill closed in late 2013. No mine production was planned in 2014 and 2015, although the mine is expected to re-start in 2016 to supply ore to other mills in the area. This is not included in the accompanying profile.
