Metals & Mining Snapshot: trade Trumps fundamentals
Report summary
In this month's snapshot we include a short synopsis from each mined commodity. While trade jitters continue to undermine sentiment and prices, we remain of the view that many commodities face supply shortages while demand is robust. On the supply side, deficits are coming as a result of a number of issues which are causing investors to pay notice. Iron ore is facing mine outages in Brazil and weather-related disruptions in Australia. Copper is coming to grips with under investment and mine supply will fall in 2019. We expect nickel will have a small surplus for the first time years and the market is closely watching developments in Indonesia as supply ramps up.
