Olimpiada gold mine

Report summary

Olimpiada is a big open pit mine with high gold grades. It is the largest gold mine in Russia and one of the top ten producers in the world. In 2017, the mine produced 1177koz of gold, accounting for 55% of Polyus' gold production.  The operation is part of Polyus`s Krasnoyarsk business unit which is made up of the Olimpiada, Blagodatnoye and Titimukhta mines. Olimpiada and Titimukhta are located close together and share infrastructure and processing facilities. Mining is by conventional open pit methods and the ore is treated onsite at an 8Mtpa capacity plant (Mill-2&3). Capacity at Olympiada is now effectively 11Mtpa as the mine is also utilising the 3Mtpa Titimukhta mill. The sulfide ore is treated via gravity and differential flotation. The flotation concentrate is further treated by bio-oxidation and the bio-leach is then sorption leached using carbon-in-leach (CIL).
