Onahama copper refinery
Report summary
The refinery is located adjacent to Onahama Port, some 200km north of Tokyo, and has excellent road, rail and sea links. The refinery together with the associated smelter was constructed as a joint venture and was commissioned in 1965 with a capacity of 130kt/a cathode. In 1973 capacity was increased by 104kt/a with the commissioning of the No. 3 tankhouse using jumbo cells and continuously cast Hazelett anodes.
