Palabora copper refinery
Report summary
The refinery is located at Phalaborwa, North East Transvaal and has good road and rail links. The plant was commissioned on a greenfield site in 1968 to refine anodes from the Palabora smelter. Currently, more than 80% of the cathode produced is converted into rod and other cast shapes in plants on site, and the balance is exported. In 1998 the refinery obtained ISO 9002 registration.
