Operated as an equal joint venture between Bacanora Lithium and Ganfeng, Sonora is a lithium mineral project located in Sonora, Mexico. Lithium mineralisation at Sonora occurs predominantly as hectorite and polylithionite in two major clay-rich tuffaceous layers. The latest resource estimate reported total mineral reserves of 243.8Mt @ 3,480ppm Li. Construction of Stage 1, with an initial mine life of 19 years, began in early 2021 but has been postponed due to COVID-19. Wood Mackenzie’s asset reports are built from the bottom up, incorporating several granular data metrics to ultimately produce our industry-standard cash operating costs. This report contains a detailed asset note giving you a holistic view of the asset, including an operational overview through to a timeline of events from inception to now.
