Report summary
The smelter was originally built on a greenfield site in 1972. In 1975 the lime scrubbing plant was installed to reduce the pollution from fugitive fume. Production capacity was expanded by the addition of an oxygen plant in 1981. Further capacity increases were achieved in 1984 by the addition of a second oxygen plant and at the same time acid plant tailgas was routed to the lime scrubbing plant, achieving an overall sulphur fixation over 99.9%.
