Report summary
On May 12th the Omaha Public Power District management recommended to their board of directors that the 478 MW Fort Calhoun Station nuclear unit be retired by the end of 2016. Low natural gas prices and incentivized renewables have been chasing coal plants into retirement for several years. Ironically, it now appears that this transformation of the energy landscape is poised to cannibalize some of the existing low carbon fleet as well.
