Seasonal curtailment issues: North America power and renewables short term outlook October 2019
Report summary
• Wind curtailment has been significant recently, as October wind output was strong across ERCOT, SPP and MISO. In SPP negative prices persisted across an entire week. • In CAISO, solar curtailment as the duck has grown and suppressed mid-day prices, has transitioned gas into loss-avoidance during the day due to expensive evening ramps. • Henry Hub gas prices have been squashed this fall with the continued surge of US gas production coinciding with shoulder season demand lows.
