Asset Report
Moesian Platform shale gas unconventional concept play (Bulgaria)
Report summary
In an early stage assessment, LNG Energy predicted that the Moesian Platform has 7.2 tcf gross prospective recoverable resources. As a result, supermajor Chevron entered Bulgaria with the hope to commercialise Bulgaira's unconventional potential. However, since 2012, progress has slowed. The government introduced a hydraulic fracturing moratorium, limiting the ability for operators to commercially produce the target formations. As a result, Chevron exited and exploration in the basin has ground to a halt.
