Area 147
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
Block 147 lies in the Murzuq Basin, around 125 kilometres east of Eni's Elephant field. TPAO was awarded the licence in the second EPSA IV bid round of 2005. The operator struck oil with its first well, A1-147/3, in September 2009 and went on to drill 10 more exploration wells by February 2011, making six oil discoveries. TPAO suspended all Libyan drilling in 2011 after declaring force majeure in response to the country's political crisis and ensuing civil war. The force majeure was lifted in December 2012 but the subsequent deterioration in security makes a near term investment decision on the project unlikely.
