The Cañadón de la Escondida Las Heras block located in the southern San Jorge basin contains a sizeable mature oil field. From 1999 to 2012 the block was operated by Repsol YPF. The government expropriated the asset when YPF was nationalized in 2012.Crude production from the block is piped east to terminals on the Atlantic coast.
