Cantarell is Pemex's third largest offshore business unit. At its peak in 2004, Cantarell was the world's second largest oil producing field at 2.1 million b/d. It is located 80 kilometres offshore in the Bay of Campeche. The core group of fields known as the Cantarell Complex consists of three main producing structures: Akal, Ixtoc and Sihil plus five smaller satellite fields: Chac, Kutz, Kambesah, Nohoch and Takin.
