The Chihuido de la Sierra Negra field was historically an important conventional oil producer for YPF. Despite drilling and workover activity, oil production has declined consistently since the year 2000. The block produces under secondary drive (water injection), while water cut averaged 97% during the period 2018-2020.Chihuido de la Sierra Negra has associated gas reserves. However, due to the high carbon dioxide content, no gas is sold; instead, it is flared or re-injected.
