ExxonMobil and PETRONAS divest in Chad to Savannah
Report summary
After months of talks and rumours, Savannah Energy announced on 13 December that it is purchasing ExxonMobil and PETRONAS' Chadian assets. Upon completion, Savannah Energy will have 75% of the Doba Oil Project and 70.74% in the Chad-Cameroon Pipeline (CCP). This will grow Savannah's portfolio considerably, with 2022 net production set to more than double (+141%) and throughput in its midstream business to increase over six-fold (+628%). ExxonMobil has been trying to exit Chad since 2017 as the Chadian assets are immaterial, non-core and high emissions. PETRONAS is streamlining its portfolio and the heavy oil Chad asset no longer fits within its strategy to focus and expand the core business, maximise cash generators and step into new energy.
