The Ratawi field is located around 70 kilometres to the northwest of Basra. Until September 2023, Basra Oil Company (BOC) operated the field. The Ratawi oil field has now been awarded to TotalEnergies as part of a wider package of investments. The first phase requires the partners to invest US$10 billion over four years.
