Saudi Aramco is focusing its unconventional gas activity in three areas: the northwest (near the Iraqi and Jordanian borders) with the North Arabia development, south of Ghawar and the Jafurah Basin (east of Ghawar). Although generically termed 'shale gas', the geological targets in each of these areas differ widely. In the northwest, the main targets are Silurian tight channel sands.
