Report summary
Substantial upstream investment will be required over the next decade. However, investment will be increasingly focused on the most advantaged assets to ensure capital discipline, sustainability, and risk minimization. Deepwater resources, with favorable economic, emissions, and risk metrics, will play an outsized role as companies look to enhance portfolios with the best assets. The Advantaged Asset Index benchmarks these assets, leveraging proprietary Wood Mackenzie datasets. Roughly 15% of remaining commercial deepwater resources currently receive the highest scores and is considered highly advantaged. However, improving decarbonization and efficiency could add 10 billion boe of highly advantaged resources.
