Will deepwater GoM continue its hot streak?
Report summary
Deepwater Gulf of Mexico created buzz in the first half of the year. The region recorded an uptick in exploration, project sanctions, and M&A activity which demonstrate operators’ commitment to the region. Discovered volumes from exploration is close to 300 mmboe, compared to 145 mmboe discovered throughout all of 2018. The US GoM accounted for 20% of projects sanctioned globally. Production started from the first ever Jurassic-aged reservoir in deepwater GoM, and Murphy and Equinor scaled up their position through billion-dollar acquisitions. But what can we expect from the second half of the year?
