Report summary
January prices continue to slide as European inventories remain above the 5-year average for this time of year. Cold snaps have been largely unsuccessful in relieving downward pressure on prices, but likely contributed towards day-ahead prices temporarily overtaking month-ahead prices earlier this month. Despite cooler than average temperatures in some parts of China, Asian prices have remained stagnant as demand remains sporadic in the region; spreads between Europe and Asia have narrowed since last month and currently sits at just over $1.
