China economic focus September 2022: the 20th party congress - prioritising self-reliance and stability
Report summary
The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC congress) will be held on 16 October. We expect the 20th CPC congress to emphasise self-reliance and stability in China’s economic strategy. On self-reliance, there will be a renewed focus on fossil fuel supply in the short term and a continuous effort to strengthen the position of state-owned enterprises. On stability, more stimulus measures for the property market will likely be released. Aggressive support could save China from a near-term financial crisis but will add to the risks in the future.
