Asset Report
Gamsberg zinc smelter project
Report summary
The Gamsberg deposit was discovered in 1975 but its low grade (6.3%, but new discovery in 2005 at 7.7%) and impurity content (for example manganese at 3.5%) have prevented its earlier exploitation. In 1998 Anglo acquired Gamsberg Zinc Corporation (and the balance of 55% interest in Black Mountain) and commenced a feasibility study into the development of the deposit as a mine, concentrator and smelter.
