The Hellyer zinc-lead mine was owned by Western Metals from 1998. In 2000 the mine closed, leaving a large potential mine of tailings which contain relatively useful levels of zinc, lead, silver and gold. Intec Ltd. bought the Hellyer tailings from the Western Metals' receivers for US$1M in January 2004. Intec developed and have patented the Intec Zinc Process, which is based on the same chemistry as the Intec Copper Process, that being the use of the mixed halide species BrCl2-. It was...
