Asset Report
Mayoko-Lekoumou iron ore mine
Report summary
Sapro SA purchased Mayoko-Lekoumou in the Republic of Congo from Exxaro in 2016. Reports suggest that production commenced in small quantities in 2018 but was suspended in early 2020 after a train derailment and worker payment issues. The lack of a suitable mine to port transport solution means that the ore is likely to remain on site until this is resolved. The operators are seeking finance to build a dedicated rail line which will run from the mine site to Point Noire, a distance of 441 kilometres.
