Pierina gold mine
Report summary
Pierina was a conventional open pit mining operation with heap leach ore processing. Ore was crushed and transported by conveyor to leach pads and gold as dore was recovered via a Merrill Crowe circuit. Production commenced in 1999 and ceased in 2013. Initial planned capacity was 19kt/d of ore. In 2000, throughput rose to 27kt/d, with an incremental investment of US$34 million. In 2019, Pierina continued to process incidental ounces as the mine entered closure.
