Report summary
The underground South Division (Malmberget) mine is located in the Swedish province of Lapland, it is wholly owned by the Swedish state owned mining firm, LKAB. It produces 8 Mtpa of iron ore pellets. LKAB has had to implement an "urban transformation plan" to relocate the local community as part of continuing operations at Malmberget. Based on reported provisions and historical costs we estimate Malmberget's annual urban transformation cost will average US$40 million a year from 2018 to 2035.
