The Phu Khanh Basin is an under-explored, frontier basin located off the eastern coast of Vietnam between the Cuu Long and Bac Bo - Yinggehai (Song Hong) basins. Exploration licences were first awarded in 2005, and only three wells have been drilled so far, resulted in one small shallow-water oil discovery. Future exploration is expected to focus on the undrilled deepwater sector. The basin may hold material prospective resources, however, its potential resource volumes, success rates, activity and investment levels are subject to a wide range of unknowns and uncertainties. Wood Mackenzie developed this analysis using our Frontier Basin methodology, as well as analogues from global basins.
