Early studies suggested that the Alum shales in southern Sweden were thick, had a high organic content, and were thermally mature. In 2010 Shell drilled three wells (Oderup C4-1, Lövestad A3-1 and Hedegerga B2-1) to test the thermogenic gas potential of the Alum shale in the Sjöbo, Hörby, and Tomelilla municipalities.
