The Amu Darya Oil Project contains five oil fields operated by Xinjiang Central Asia Petroleum and Gas Company (CAPEIC), which signed a 25-year contract with Taliban authorities. The project includes the Kashkari, Bazarkhami and Zamarudsay blocks. First oil was achieved in 2012, but the output was constrained to less than 2,000 b/d by the lack of an export sales contract. Operations resumed in 2023, having been suspended since 2016.
