Western Australia's domestic gas supply / demand balance 2024
Report summary
Western Australia's domestic gas market is tight, with drawdown from storage required to keep the market adequately supplied. However, demand is forecast to jump as coal-fired powergen is retired by the end of the decade. Combined with a decline in supply from mature offshore fields, this could result in a structurally short gas market. We update our views on Western Australia's domestic gas outlook, the risks and opportunities for future supply, what the market might look like if Perth Basin exports were allowed, and the role of key infrastructure in exporting Perth Basin gas.
