Middleback Ranges iron ore mine
Report summary
Middleback Ranges (MBR) represents a number of surface iron ore mines, located in South Australia, approximately 60 kilometres north-west from Whyalla. MBR is operated by Simec Mining, a wholly owned subsidiary of GFG Allliance (GFG), a privately owned UK company. MBR consists of three core mining areas: Iron Knob, Iron Baron and the South Middleback Ranges as well as a pellet plant, which forms part of the integrated steelworks at Whyalla. MBR produces 9-10 Mtpa, of which 7-8 Mtpa is exported and 2 Mtpa is supplied to the Whyalla steelworks.
