Palabora copper mine

Report summary

Palabora is the only copper mine in South Africa. A consortium of Chinese and South African companies acquired the operation from Anglo American and Rio Tinto in 2013. They then took the company private in 2014.  On current reserves production is expected to stop in 2016. Future production from the mine is dependent on the successful development of the Lift II project which is currently at feasibility stage.
